How we know if we're succeeding
Measuring ourselves: cervical cancer screening
The basic facts
- The Pap test is the most effective cancer screening test in medical
history
- It is the only screening test that has been associated with a 70% - 80%
decrease in deaths (in the U.S.) due to a prevalent cancer
- The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends Pap tests to
begin at the age of first sexual activity. After 3 consecutive normal tests,
it can be done every 3 years (This recommendation is for healthy women at
normal risk.).
Our mission is to increase the cervical cancer screening rates in patients
treated by Aurora providers.
We measure the percent of our female patients ages 21 to 64 who had a Pap
test within the past 36 months.
In 2006, our screening (Pap test) rate for female patients ages 21 to
64 was 70%.

n = number of patients in sample measured
