How we know if we're succeeding
Measuring ourselves: childhood immunizations
The basic facts
- The national Healthy People 2010
goal is to have at least 90% of all children receive the recommended series
of childhood immunizations (vaccinations) by age 24 months
- Milwaukee's childhood vaccination rate is about 79%, and Wisconsin's
about 83%, both below the Healthy People 2010 goal of 90%
- Research shows that the use of an automated immunization registry
improves immunization rates
- Aurora has partnered with the State of Wisconsin Department of Health
and Family Services and local health departments to increase the rate of
childhood immunizations through the use of the Wisconsin Immunization
Registry (WIR)
- The WIR is a secure computerized record of immunizations given to
children in Wisconsin that allows us to track immunization histories and
identify children in need of vaccinations
Our mission is to ensure that children 2 years of age who are under our care
have received the recommended series of immunizations (4 DtaP, 3 Hepatitis B,1
MMR, 3 Hib, 3 Polio, 1 Varicella).
We measure the percent of children 24-35 months of age who have received the
recommended immunization series.
In 2006, 90% of children under our care received their necessary
vaccinations, surpassing our goal of 80% as well as surpassing both city and
state rates.
