Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center
Quality
orthopedic care – how is it measured?
As part of Aurora Health Care, Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center
measures its quality by participating in 2 national quality initiatives. These
initiatives are sponsored by outside organizations that collect and analyze data
to help measure health care quality.
Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center's performance is being tracked in
various categories, along with other participating hospitals. This encourages
hospitals to improve the care they provide, as well as allowing consumers to
compare hospitals, since the results are reported publicly.
Who is measuring Aurora's quality?
The 2 projects are: Premier Inc. and
the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS)
Hospital Quality Incentive Project.
CMS (Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services)
This 3-year project is the 1st national pay-for-performance project of its
kind. More than 260 hospitals are voluntarily participating. They are being
measured on the care they provide for 5 different conditions, including hip and
knee replacement.
In the most recent reporting period, Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center
scored in the top 10% of participating hospitals in all 4 categories it's being
measured on. The medical center was also recognized as one of the top 5
performing hospitals in the country, scoring 98.47% in the Hip and Knee
Replacement category, according to an article in a national health care
magazine.*
Premier, Inc.
Premier is a leading health care alliance that collects and reports data from
more than 400 hospitals around the country. Premier compares hospitals of
similar size and services to each other, tracking the outcomes of patients
treated for eight different conditions, including hip and knee replacement.
Participating hospitals track and report information such as:
- how many days patients spend in the hospital
- the cost of their care
- if patients experienced complications after surgery
- how well the hospital followed national recommendations on specific
treatment guidelines
In recent rankings Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center ranked as a “top
performer” (in the top 25% of all hospitals measured) in 5 of the 6 categories
it's being measured on, including hip and knee surgery.
