The staff

Jake Bidwell, MD, medical director

Dr. Bidwell has lived in Wisconsin his entire life and now lives with his wife and two children in Milwaukee. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1999 and completed his Family Medicine Residency in 2002. He is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine in the UW Medical School at the Milwaukee Clinical Campus.

Dr. Bidwell sees patients at the Family Practice Center (located at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center) as well as at Walker's Point Community Clinic where he serves as Medical Director. It is his job to assure that we provide high quality medical care to our patients. He also teaches the medical students and residents who see patients at our clinic during their training.

“I work toward providing everyone a safe, welcoming and respectful place to receive healthcare services.”

Andrea Cantwell-Durand, FNP

Patricia Deleon, RN

Pat grew up in the Milwaukee area and received her nursing diploma at Milwaukee County Hospital and then her nursing degree at Alverno College. Her background has been mainly in public health nursing. She also had the privilege of living in Guatemala for several years with her family where they did mission work amongst the people living on the city's landfill and also amongst the indigenous in a remote mountain village.

Pat is new to Walker's Point. Her role is to triage patients coming in and to do some follow-up teaching and nursing assessments on an on-going basis.

“I love everything about my job… the staff I work with (they are all very compassionate), the diversity of cultures all around me, and the opportunities already being given to develop my nursing assessment skills and ability to speak Spanish on a daily basis.”

Maria Estrada, clinic assistant/translator

Maria was born in Mexico and raised in San Antonio, TX. She came to Milwaukee at the age of 13 and graduated from South Division High School in 1998. She started working at Walker's Point Community Clinic, then Madison Street Clinic, in 2001.

“The experiences I've had at Walker's Point have been my motivation to become a Registered Nurse.”

Sonia Garcia, social services asst.

Sonia was born and raised here in Milwaukee, WI. In May 2001, she earned a B.A. in Foreign Language from Carroll College in Waukesha, WI as well as Minor degrees in Politics and Human Services. Aside from social services, her work experiences have included: Spanish instructor, after-school art teacher, summer recreation leader, and professional translator. In addition, she has completed many volunteer projects for several community organizations throughout the Milwaukee and Waukesha areas.

Her primary role is that of a social service person with an emphasis in health care needs. She also serves as front desk staff and interpreter when necessary. “My greatest satisfaction in life is to know that my words and actions have made a positive impact. I get to live that everyday in this job. I enjoy working with the public and developing great staff-patient relationships. It's also very fulfilling to have a place of work where my educational background fits perfectly with our mission.”

Peter Giangreco, MA

Peter was born and raised in Kansas City, MO, and attended college at Truman State University in Northeast Missouri. In August 2005, he moved to Milwaukee to work at WPCC and CORE/ El Centro as a Jesuit Volunteer for one year. Following his volunteer year, he was hired on as an employee.

Peter is a clinic assistant responsible for prepping each patient and performing simple lab diagnostics for clinicians. Occasionally patients require medication on a long-term basis and he aids them in finding the most affordable medication through patient assistance programs. He aspires to attend medical school after finishing his work at WPCC.

Alison Gima, administrative asst./medical interpreter

Alison studied Spanish at Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA, and Medical Interpretation at Waukesha County Technical College. She works as an on-call Medical Interpreter for Aurora Health Care- Metro. She is an Administrative Asst. and Medical Interpreter at Walker's Point Community Clinic. Most days she orders supplies, handles accounts payable and payroll issues, and helps coordinate volunteer schedules.

She also enjoys interpreting for our Spanish-speaking patients in clinic. On Fridays she volunteers as a Reiki practitioner at CORE/El Centro, a natural healing center down the hall from our clinic. This gives her an opportunity to support the collaboration between our two agencies, both of which are striving to provide community access to integrated health care and wellness.

“The best thing about my job is that I am part of a great team of people. Everyone I work with is dedicated and hard working, and we are united in our goal to provide quality services to our patients. I also appreciate the holistic nature of our entire floor. Working side by side with CORE/El Centro and The Healing Center enables us to help our clients on the physical, emotional, and energetic levels.”

She is certified by the ANCC as a family Nurse Practitioner and is licensed as an Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber. Awilda's parents are natives of Puerto Rico, though she was born and raised in New York City. She has lived in Milwaukee for 19 years now, having received her degree in nursing from Milwaukee Area Technical College in December of 1999. After deciding to follow her passion and work with the community, she was given the opportunity to explore different areas of nursing. She has worked with the Milwaukee Public Schools as a school nurse, and with the elderly at an adult daycare center.

“My ability to speak Spanish has helped me at the clinic and community. I have worked at Walker's Point Community Clinic for 9 years now. My role at WPCC is as a diabetes educator and triage nurse. I triage the patients and evaluate the urgency of their medical needs. My real passion, however, is educating our diabetic patients or those who are high risk for this terrible disease. I provide one-one classes and bi-monthly group classes. Things that keep me motivated are hearing about patients who have their diabetes better controlled and thus have reduced their risk for complications. On my off days I enjoy shopping. I also love spending time with my grandchildren.”

Jeff Luecke, RN

Jeff was born and raised in Howards Grove, WI. He received a bachelors in Nursing from UW-Madison in 1995, and a Masters in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2005. Ever since his days working as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, he's enjoyed working with the Latino population in the areas of health and wellness in body, mind, and spirit.

Jeff is a Registered Nurse whose duties include triage, patient follow-up, health/wellness education, childhood immunizations, and spiritual counseling.

“I enjoy being part of a team of wonderful people who are trying to make this world a better place by serving others with love and compassion as well as being on a mission with our patients to be complete people in body, mind, and spirit.”

Rosa Montes, clinic assistant/translator

Rosa was born in Mexico and has been in Milwaukee for 15 years. She graduated from Riverside University High school in 1997 and has worked at Walker's Point Community Clinic since December 2002 as a Clinic Assistant/Interpreter.

“Working here has given me the opportunity to help our community with its health care needs. I have also improved my skills and learned new techniques, which have allowed me to provide exceptional service to our patients. Walker's Point has provided me the opportunity to return to school to obtain my degree as a Registered Nurse. After I finish this degree and practice for a while, my goal is to return to school once more and become a Nurse Practitioner.”

Karen Moucha, FNP

Karen is from the Madison, WI area. She worked as an RN in the critical care setting for many years prior to receiving an MSN as a NP. Prior to working as a RN in critical care, Karen worked as an RN in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica.

Maria was born in Rio Piedra, Puerto Rico and has been living in Milwaukee since 1979. After working to earn a GED while also volunteering at WPCC in 2003, she was hired as an employee.

Maria's duties at the clinic include: greeting and assisting patients, giving appointments, preparing and filing charts, answering the phone, and keeping everything running smoothly from the front desk.

“I most enjoy helping patients that are without health insurance and do not have access to other health care options.”

Steve Ohly, RN NP Manager, clinic manager

Steve is originally from Rochester, MN. He received his B.S.N. in Winona, MN and his M.S.N. in San Francisco, CA. He has worked with and for a diversity of communities, from Amish in rural Iowa, African-Americans in Washington, D.C., homeless in San Francisco, to undocumented folks from Mexico.

Steve's clinic responsibilities include: to lead the clinic staff, to shepherd resources, to work with all to stay true to our mission, patient care, and to manage budget and supervise employees. “Hello from the “grandfather of the clinic.” I have been around since the clinic's inception in August of 1992. I am here because I believe in health care as a right for all people. My health care career as a nurse, nurse practitioner and manager has always been about creating access for people who are often left out by a system that responds to market forces instead of the basic needs of the community. I am part of Walker's Point Community Clinic because I work alongside people who operate out of compassion for those lacking equal opportunity in our world.”
