Aurora Medical Center in Grafton reaches major construction milestone
We’re one step closer to realizing the dream of offering our patients
throughout the greater Ozaukee County area all of the benefits of integrated
care close to home. On Thursday, July 30, the new Aurora Medical Center in
Grafton reached a major milestone with the placement of the final piece of
structural steel.
Construction workers, community members and caregivers braved the rain
for a special topping off ceremony at the construction site. Also in
attendance were Village of Grafton Administrator Darrell Hofland, Economic
Development for Grafton Enhancement (EDGE) President Todd Luft and Pam King
from the Grafton Chamber of Commerce.
A topping off ceremony involves lifting the final beam for the structural
steel into place – a celebration of construction progress. The beam, which
was painted in Aurora's signature teal, was signed by many of the
construction workers as well as Nick Turkal, president and CEO of Aurora
Health Care, Jim Brunnquell, Village of Grafton president, and Gene Monroe,
president of Aurora Advanced Health Care.
“Our patients deserve the best care, designed for their unique health
care needs,” said Dr. Turkal. I am confident this one-of-a-kind medical
center and the people who will care for you, your family and your neighbors
will help us transform this into a place of healing.”
Dr. Turkal thanked the hundreds of trades’ workers who have kept the
project safe and on schedule, saying, “The care and quality you have put
into building this Aurora Medical Center will be rivaled only by the care
and quality that our caregivers will provide here for our patients.”
Dr. Turkal noted that the new medical center will serve as the
cornerstone to an already successful affiliation with Aurora Advanced
Healthcare that is benefitting patients in the community.
Gene Monroe noted the medical center’s importance to providing integrated
care to patients in Ozaukee County and beyond. “Today’s ceremony represents
a clear vision and a relentless team effort to create a medical campus that
will meet the area’s health care needs for decades to come,” he said.
The new Aurora Medical Center is being built just off of Interstate 43 on
Highway 60. The 89-bed medical center will feature a modern, efficient
design that emphasizes comfort and convenience for patients and their
families. The 520,000 square foot medical center includes the addition of an
orthopedic clinic, added to original plans to better meet the needs of our
patients.
The medical center’s design also incorporates environmental stewardship
and sustainability elements from conserving energy and water and reducing
and recycling waste to preservation of the site’s wetlands.
Construction of the medical center remains on schedule for opening in
late 2010.
