Hospital
service and design features that Aurora has embraced
Private rooms
Private rooms with full private baths have several significant advantages.
They offer privacy for patients and their families. They facilitate the rest
that can be so important in the healing process. They reduce the rate of
hospital-acquired infections. And they promote family involvement in the
healing process.
Home-like décor
Simple things can make a patient room feel less institutional and more like
home. Comfortable furniture, warm colors, window treatments, natural
woodwork and artwork – all can contribute to a patient’s sense of comfort
and well-being.
Lighting options
A traditional hospital room has bright, glaring fluorescent lights overhead.
We incorporate softer lighting and lighting options in each room, so
patients can decide what’s best for them.
Nurse call systems
When you are in a hospital bed and you need to call your nurse, typically
you push a button near your bed and a signal sounds at the nurse station.
The person who answers then must relay a message to the nurse who is
providing your care. Aurora now uses a nurse-direct call system that allows
patients to call their nurse directly.
Meals on your schedule
Patients may order off a menu and have their meals delivered at a time of
their choosing.
Room temperature
Patients control the temperature in their rooms.
Private patient hallways
Patient hallways are separate from those used by the general public. This
promotes patient privacy and contributes to a quieter, less stressful
hospital environment.
Easy wayfinding
At many hospitals, part of the challenge for patients and family members is
just finding your way around. Smart design can make it much easier for
people to navigate.
No overhead paging
Traditionally, hospital patients are subjected to all manner of overhead
announcements, chimes, bells and other alerts. In the interest of a quieter
and less stressful environment, we have eliminated these.
Natural light
Plentiful windows fill the building with natural light and help create a
link to the outside environment.
Healing gardens
Gardens provide a tranquil retreat for patients, family members and
caregivers.
Separate entrances
Our new hospitals have multiple entrances with adjacent parking, an
important convenience for patients and family members. There is one main
entrance for inpatient care, another for outpatient care and one dedicated
to emergency care. But there also are separate entrances for patients
arriving for rehabilitation or cancer therapy, dialysis and ambulatory
surgery. And these entrances feature covered patient drop-off areas.
Family lounges
Visitors to our hospitals can spend time in comfortable family lounges with
kitchenettes.
Wireless Internet access
Free wireless high-speed Internet access is available to patients and
visitors throughout the hospital campus.
Nurse stations
Non-traditional, barrier-free nurse stations encourage interaction between
patients, family members and staff.
Chapels
Beautiful, peaceful and quiet, these are places for worship, meditation and
reflection.
Care partner rooms
Rooms adjacent to patient rooms where a family member may stay overnight to
be near a sick loved one.
Unlimited visiting hours
Family members and friends are welcome to visit at any time, day or night.
Visits by pets
We recognize that pets are an important part of many families. Your pet is
welcome to visit you in the hospital. We also provide visits by “therapy
dogs.”
