Too much horseplay over hospital plan (letter to the editor)
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Aug. 21, 2006
I have no problem with Aurora physicians or the care they deliver. They
are good people who work hard. Why they let their executives make 20 to
30 times their salary is beyond me, but that is up to them.
I
do have a problem with said Aurora executives. It seems they approached
Oconomowoc with a business plan consisting of something like: Give us
your land for a tax-exempt hospital so we can charge our chosen prices,
or we will sue. I can see why Oconomowoc businesses are upset. If Sentry
or Piggly-Wiggly sued me, I think I would buy my groceries at Pick 'n
Save.
I also have a problem with the Oconomowoc mayor, who was quoted as
saying he did not want to "roll the dice" in court with taxpayer money
at stake. It sounds as though he is fine rolling my dice, as I actually
live in Summit.
I
also don't understand why Summit Town Chairman Len Susa continues to
state that the Town of Summit favors the hospital. We petitioned to vote
on it, and the board refused to allow it.
Maybe I am just a country boy doctor from South Dakota with too
much
common sense to understand all this horseplay. It sure does not make
sense to me. Why don't we vote on things like this and move on?

| The elected officials
of the Town of Summit thoroughly studied this project before
making their decision. Their conduct throughout this period has
been exemplary. |
