concerns would be better directed at Oconomowoc city officials, whose
illegal conduct early in 2001 prompted litigation. |

Oconomowoc Enterprise
Aurora lawsuit expenses better spent on patients (letter to the
editor)
Oconomowoc Enterprise, Apr. 6, 2006
It
was with interest that I read the amount of money Aurora hospital
spends on legal fees. The first mentioned $30 million between 2001
and 2004, with $10.7 million alone in 2004. The 2004 number was
corrected to $13.6 million, in just one year.
I understand why these expensive fees are constantly going up, as
each time someone says no to Aurora, they sue that person or entity.
And when they dont like that they lose, they simply appeal the
decision. I wonder with lawsuits and appeals what colossal amounts
of money Aurora paid in 2005?
We
are lucky to have the Oconomowoc area free clinic in our city. Our
clients have grown in the past two years, just like Auroras
attorneys bills. But our numbers stem from the fact that our
patients are here because they cannot afford insurance and have
medical needs that would be uncared for if not for the free clinic.
We need more space, and we need more medical supplies. Perhaps
Aurora could give up just one little lawsuit and give the free
clinic just some of the millions they would have spent to actually
help sick people in need. Lots of people would actually benefit and
really appreciate that act of kindness.

| The
physicians of Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic have long been
supportive of the free clinic. No health care provider in
Wisconsin does more for the poor and underserved than Aurora
Health Care. The letter writers sarcastic and cynical comments
here are offensive to the many hundreds of Oconomowoc area
residents who are part of the Aurora organization. |
