LAUREL. To Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge James R. Kieffer, for holding Oconomowoc officials accountable to open government. Kieffer ruled Oconomowoc violated its own zoning procedures by improperly rezoning a parcel of land in Pabst Farms to block construction of an Aurora hospital in 2001. He also ruled city officials violated the states open meetings law by not properly giving notice of a closed meeting where plans for the hospital were to be discussed. We always applaud open government. Now, we await more formal plans from Aurora, recognizing we have supported its building efforts in the past.
