Aurora plans cancer center

Waukesha Freeman, September 12, 2006

OCONOMOWOC Aurora Health Care plans to open a new albeit temporary cancer care center that will shift to Auroras new Pabst Farms hospital once that facility is complete.

An Aurora spokeswoman confirmed the plans Monday.

The 3,224-square-foot Vince Lombardi Cancer Center planned for the Summit Centre Marketplace is in addition to Auroras previously announced 14,100-square-foot womens care center destined for the same retail development.

Services offered at the womens center also will move to the new Aurora hospital development when it opens, likely in 2008 or 2009, according to Aurora.

Still, following the move, Aurora may use the leased space at Summit Centre for other operations, Aurora spokeswoman Jennifer Gross said.
The cancer center will include up to two physicians, including one who now works out of Auroras clinic in Hartland, and nursing and administrative staff.

It will have five examination rooms and areas for chemotherapy, a patient and family education area and a small laboratory.

The Oconomowoc Plan Commission is set to consider a special use permit for the center to be located next to the Sonoma Cellars wine retailer at its meeting Wednesday.

If granted the permit the cancer center will open in early 2007, Gross said.
