Biography

Nimish Vakil, MD, FACG, FACP, AGAF, FASGE, is an internationally known expert of endoscopy, gastroesophageal reflux disease and peptic ulcer disease. He is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, American College of Physicians, American Gastroenterological Association and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr.Vakil has been selected by his peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America.”

In addition to his practice, Dr. Vakil is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison. He also serves as associate editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology and is U.S. editor of Endoscopy, journal of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Vakil is the author of more than 250 papers, including a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine about Milwaukee’s cryptosporidiosis epidemic. He has lectured at universities and national conferences across the globe, and been invited to lecture at gastroenterology society meetings in more than 20 countries. Dr. Vakil led an international group from 18 countries to reach consensus on the definition of reflux disease, which was later extended to include reflux disease in children. He has presented numerous times at American Gastroenterological Association and United European Gastroenterology Association meetings.
