Technology

At Aurora, technology is critical in providing the most efficient, up-to-date systems and diagnostic services for our patients and caregivers. It ensures coordination of care and positively impacts the quality and cost of care. Consistently named one of the "100 most wired" by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine, Aurora is committed to investing in the future of health care delivery.

Technology firsts at Aurora Health Care

  • Electronic health record (EHR) - a computerized record that instantly shares information across Aurora services, facilities and physicians; over 18,000 caregivers use EHR daily, with over 2 million patient records in the database
  • eICU care - supports more than 250 ICU beds across the Aurora system; from a remote location, physicians can view patients in the ICUs and provide 24-hour consultative care while caregivers at the bedside deliver it hands-on

Technology for you and for your job

  • Smart chart - a more robust electronic health record with more patient data and built-in alerts to guide
  • PACS (Picture archiving and communications system) - provides digital imaging that can be seen from any workstation; a caregiver can read the results, see the images on his or her desktop and share them with the patient.
  • Wireless facilities allow our caregivers, patients and families to remain connected
  • My Aurora - communicate with your doctor and clinic via the Web; view and pay your bills, schedule appointments, get a prescription renewal, ask your doctor a question, track your health and more
  • iConnect - Aurora's internal Web site provides access to information about your career, your pay and your benefits, along with many other resources, such as enrollment in professional development classes offered on site

Technology used today

  • CyberKnife - high-beam radiation with sub-millimeter accuracy destroys cancerous and non-cancerous tumors
  • Gamma knife - high dose gamma rays target and destroy brain tumors and blood vessel abnormalities deep within the brain
  • Artificial hearts
  • LVADs (left ventricular assisted device)
  • Largest hyperbaric chamber in the state (second largest in the country)
  • Merci retrieval system removes blood clots from stroke patients
