A Transformed Space That Transforms Lives
For the past 40 years the Dewey Center, a division of Aurora Behavioral Health Services, has been one of Wisconsin’s leading providers of programs designed to combat alcohol and substance abuse. Dewey Center enables patients with a dual diagnosis of substance abuse and a mental illness, such as depression or bipolar disorder, to receive treatment uniquely designed to meet their full spectrum of behavioral health needs. Dewey Center treated 2,200 recovery patients in 2011.
In order to expand capacity at Dewey Center and help meet the community’s growing treatment gap, donors of Aurora Health Care Foundation supported the transformation of the historic President’s House into Lighthouse on Dewey.
Now, Lighthouse on Dewey provides a safe, consistent space for community support groups and other activities supporting healthy relationships, recovery and continued sobriety.
It provides space for family programming, 12-step support groups, evening and weekend leisure activities, and weekend retreats. It also serves as the center of operations for the Dewey Friends of Recovery Alumni organization.
