Betsy Blair, PsyD, is a licensed professional counselor with a background in clinical psychology. She facilitates the “Moving Forward: Treating Distress in Women with Cancer” program available at the Aurora Women's Pavilion.

Cancer impacts your life on many levels -- physically, emotionally and spiritually. That is why the Aurora Women's Pavilion believes you need a plan of care that addresses each of these aspects of your health.

A mental health team is here to help you address the emotional issues that surround the diagnosis of cancer. Through individual, family or group settings, our counseling staff of psychiatrists, psychologists and nurse practitioners help you face emotional concerns in order to enhance your physical recovery.

Our “Moving Forward: Treating Distress in Women with Cancer” program helps women with the feeling of isolation, helplessness and hopelessness she may feel after a diagnosis of cancer. The group will provide support to women with cancer while teaching coping skills that can be helpful and effective in dealing with this illness. The group will:

  • Address specific steps to help solve difficult problems experienced by cancer patients, from the initial diagnosis of the disease through to medical treatment
  • Help patients understand how thinking, feeling and interacting in their personal relationships can affect their medical treatment and consummate wellness
  • Identify several approaches and strategies to help women overcome obstacles and achieve goals
  • Assist women in adapting and coping with the challenges of the diagnosis and treatment of cancer

Our Behavioral Health Services are also available to help you find the assistance you need to handle the unpleasant symptoms that often occur with cancer treatment, such as fatigue, pain, insomnia, appetite disturbances and depression.

We offer you a comprehensive program of counseling, relaxation techniques and when necessary, prescribed medications to help you reduce these symptoms.
