Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Newborns with special needs benefit from being in a hospital prepared to provide comprehensive care for premature, high-risk and critically ill babies. At the Aurora Women's Pavilion, we offer a Level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where we treat each infant in a manner that addresses their unique needs.

Our multidisciplinary team of specialists features neonatologists, radiology technologists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, dieticians and pharmacists who all have experience addressing the physical and nutritional needs of premature newborns. Utilizing a developmental approach to care, we recognize that the baby born 2-1/2 months premature has, for example, different diet, rest and stimulation requirements than babies who arrive just 1 month ahead of term. Our NICU teams are specially-trained and experienced in recognizing and providing the level of care appropriate for the baby's gestational age.

Neonatologists will oversee your baby's care while in the NICU. There is always a neonatologist available in the hospital at all times.

In order to promote a positive and nurturing environment for you baby while in the NICU, our staff places special attention on nurturing the relationships between the parents and the infant to build bonds that will develop over a lifetime, as well as the between the staff and the infant to recognize the unique needs of the child, and the staff and the parents to involve them in their baby's care from the beginning.

While we've brought together surroundings of made up of expert staff and state-of-the-art technology; most importantly, at the center of it all is the baby's family.
