Often a combination of treatment is recommended to treat breast cancer. Radiation therapy is considered local treatment since it is used to destroy cancer cells in a specific area. This may be given before or after surgery. Your doctor or the Pavilion's breast care coordinator can help you better understand why certain treatment regimens are recommended in different situations.
