Acupuncture

Acupuncture | Mindfulness-based stress reduction | Yoga | Massage | Craniosacral therapy | Meditation | Tai Chi | Aromatherapy

A form of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture seeks to restore the body's balance to achieve optimal health. Acupuncture is based on the belief that everything is interconnected. The mind and body are viewed as part of an energetic system. Qi (pronounced “chi”) is a force or energy that flows through the body. Imbalances in this flow cause illness while corrections to the flow restore the body and mind to health. Acupuncture involves inserting hair-thin needles into different areas of the body to help restore the proper flow.

Treating a wide variety of conditions

A wide range of diseases and disorders can be treated with acupuncture including:

  • Diseases of muscles, bones and joints such as arthritis and fibromyalgia
  • Diseases of the nervous system such as stroke, neuralgia, anxiety and headaches
  • Digestive disorders like ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion and constipation
  • Diseases of the respiratory system like asthma, bronchitis and sinusitis
  • Diseases of the heart and blood vessels including angina, high blood pressure, obesity and smoking
  • Obstetrics and gynecology such as PMS, infertility, uterine fibroids and menopausal symptoms
  • Anesthesia for labor and delivery
  • Decreases nausea and vomiting following chemotherapy
  • Decreases pain and fatigue for individuals undergoing cancer treatments

How does it work?

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and are inserted at very shallow levels, generally no more than a half-inch to one inch, depending on the type of treatment delivered. Most people feel only a minimal amount of sensation as the needles are inserted.

If you are interested in acupuncture, a free 15 minute consultation is available with our licensed acupuncturist, Michael Culotti, LAc. Our acupuncturist will work with your doctor. With your consent, they can collaborate on your care plan.
