A form of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture seeks to restore the
body's balance to achieve optimal health. Acupuncture is based on the belief
that everything is interconnected. The mind and body are viewed as part of
an energetic system. Qi (pronounced “chi”) is a force or energy that flows
through the body. Imbalances in this flow cause illness while corrections to
the flow restore the body and mind to health. Acupuncture involves inserting
hair-thin needles into different areas of the body to help restore the
proper flow.

How does it work?
Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and are inserted at very shallow
levels, generally no more than a half-inch to one inch, depending on the
type of treatment delivered. Most people feel only a minimal amount of
sensation as the needles are inserted.
