Living Well Program

This 12-month program is divided into 2 phases; participants can enroll separately. The 1st phase consists of 3 months of weekly meetings for a fee.  The 2nd phase is a 9-month maintenance program with bi-weekly meetings for 2 months, then monthly meetings for a fee.

The program includes education delivered by health care professionals and support from peers and the program coordinator. This education and support helps participants make lifestyle and behavior changes necessary to achieve and maintain their optimal health and reduce the risk factors for metabolic syndrome.

In addition to people with metabolic syndrome, this program would be beneficial for anyone desiring to make lifestyle changes including:

  • Adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors
  • Individuals diagnosed with pre-diabetes (elevated blood glucose levels)
  • Individuals wanting weight reduction or weight maintenance
  • Individuals wanting to decrease their cardiovascular risks
  • Individuals wanting to move toward better health
  • Individuals who are in the process of or recently quit smoking who are concerned about weight management

Wisconsin Athletic ClubPhase 1

  • 3 month program
  • 12 weekly educational classes held at Wisconsin Athletic Club – West Allis location
  • 3 month membership to the Wisconsin Athletic Club (any location)
  • Emphasis on healthy lifestyle skills
  • Weekly monitored food and activity journals and progress
  • Individual nurse consultation to discuss health risk assessment
  • Individual exercise prescription from exercise specialist
  • Pocket calorie/fat counter book
Living Well Group
Living Well group, Fall 2007

Phase 2

  • 9 month program
  • Educational classes and continued support from program coordinators and other group members.

Participants will receive information regarding:

  • Committing to healthy lifestyle choices
  • Finding and maintaining support and motivation
  • Review of exercise program from exercise specialist
  • Exercising and being physically active
  • Healthy food choices
  • Negative/positive self-talk
  • Metabolic testing from the Wisconsin Athletic Club (for a fee)
  • Exercises to incorporate at home (balls, weights, bands)
