The CyberKnife radiosurgery system uses a linear accelerator (linac) to
produce and deliver focused beams of radiation to the tumor site. Using
image guidance cameras, the exact shape and position of the tumor is
identified. The linac, which is attached to a robotic arm, delivers multiple
beams of radiation that converge at the tumor site. The tumor receives a
concentrated dose of radiation while minimizing exposure to surrounding
normal tissue.
