AnginaWhen a part of the heart does not receive enough blood, it may cause brief pain or discomfort in the chest called angina pectoris, or angina. This recurring discomfort is a common symptom of coronary artery disease when hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) causes vessels that carry blood to the heart to become blocked or narrowed. The chief symptom of angina is usually a pressing or squeezing pain under the breast bone. But sometimes angina pain is felt in the arms, shoulders, neck, jaws or back. [ Previous page ]
