Cardiac rehabilitation

Turn to the leader in cardiac care for rehabilitation if you:

  • Have had a heart attack, heart surgery or angioplasty

  • Have angina (chest pain)

  • Have heart disease or are at high risk for developing heart disease

You may be thinking seriously about making changes in your lifestyle for the sake of your heart. But lifestyle change is difficult. Success often depends on acquiring the knowledge, guidance and practice necessary for new habits to become second nature. That's where our cardiac rehabilitation program can help you and your family.

It's more than an exercise program

Cardiac Rehabilitation is designed to decrease your risk of a cardiac event. For most people, this includes physical fitness and lifestyle changes. Our comprehensive plan includes exercise training, education and counseling. We also work closely with your doctor to ensure that you benefit from national recommendations for the management of hypertension, high blood cholesterol and diabetes.

In cooperation with your physician we will tailor an activity program to help improve your exercise tolerance and strength. While you exercise we'll monitor your heart rate, heart rhythm and blood pressure.

We'll also help you identify your risk factors and set goals for changes you wish to make in your lifestyle. We offer programs on heart-healthy diets, stress management, weight management, smoking cessation and other topics related to helping you manage your health.

What benefits can you expect from cardiac rehabilitation?

Research shows that a well managed cardiac rehabilitation program is a safe and effective way to help you:

  • Increase your exercise endurance

  • Reduce symptoms of angina

  • Improve your cholesterol level

  • Stop smoking

  • Manage stress more healthfully

  • Live longer

You, the rehabilitation staff and your physician, will work as a team to make sure you are on the road to achieving your personal goals. At the end of the program, you will receive individualized exercise and risk factor management programs to help you continue your progress.

Convenience can make it work

Success often depends on finding a way to adapt your lifestyle so it becomes second nature. Look for a cardiac rehabilitation program in your community.

Cardiac Services at Aurora Health Care offers rehabilitation throughout southeastern Wisconsin. All of our cardiac rehab sites have been rigorously reviewed and certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. By eliminating the extra drive time, we can help you see that there is no reason not to get on the fast track back to health.
