Aurora St. Luke's one of Top 17 hospitals in the nation

“The Best Hospital in the State… In Caring for Heart Attack Patients.” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel June 27, 2007

According to a report released in June 2007 by the federal government's Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center is rated the best hospital in the state of Wisconsin and one of the 17 best in the nation in caring for heart attack patients. Factors contributing to this distinction include:

  • 24/7 heart care, which means having an interventional cardiologist and full catheterization staff on site 24 hours a day, every day of the year
  • Quicker diagnosis and faster treatment to help reduce damage to the heart muscle
  • Our distinction as an Accredited Chest Pain facility by the Society of Chest Pain Centers

It is our dedication to delivering the highest quality heart care that is allowing us to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.

How St. Luke's ranks nationally

  • 3rd nationally in angioplasties (more than 2,000 procedures
  • 5th for valve procedures (nearly 400)
  • 9th nationally for bypass surgeries (nearly 600 procedures)

Just a partial list of our heart care "firsts" in the Midwest

  • Heart transplant in 1968
  • Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization (TMLR) in 1985
  • Artherectomy procedure in 1989
  • Heartmate Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) implant in 1994
  • Permanent VAD implant in 1998
  • One of the first in the country for atrial fibrillation implant and tilt table test for neuro syncope
