St. Luke's Medical Center named among the nation's best in heart care
St. Luke's is the only hospital in southern Wisconsin -- and one of only two
in the state -- ranked in the Top 100
Milwaukee's leading cardiac program is the only one in southern Wisconsin
ranked in the Top 100. Solucient®, an independent information products company
based in Evanston, IL, recently conducted its annual study of over 6,000 leading
acute-care hospitals and 12 million discharged patients.
The study analyzed hospital performance including volumes, mortality,
complications, length of stay and costs. It found St. Luke's Medical Center to
be among the top hospitals in the country. These benchmark hospitals:
Recorded 35% fewer post-operative infections
Released patients sooner from the hospital
Helped patients return to everyday life sooner
And held treatment costs down on average by 13%
“If cardiovascular services in all acute-care hospitals performed at the
same level as the hospitals with the nation's top cardiovascular services, 4,200
additional cardiovascular patients could survive each year; and an additional
