Vascular Specialists

The physicians and other experts who diagnose and treat you have specialized training, knowledge and experience in vascular medicine. In most cases, they have devoted their careers to vascular medicine, which means they are aware of the latest developments in the field, as well as tried-and-true techniques and technologies.

In fact, sometimes our physicians invent the latest techniques and technologies:

  • In 1991, Dr. Mewissen's invention to dissolve clots in diseased arteries and veins, the “Mewissen Infusion Catheter,” was distributed worldwide by Boston Scientific
  • Also in 1991, the St. Luke's cardiac group performed the first cardiac artery stent insertion. Now commonplace, cardiac stents help restore normal blood flow and reduce the tendency for immediate arterial re-narrowing following traditional coronary surgery
  • In 1996, Dr. Mewissen helped perform the first endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, which replaces major open surgery
