Multidisciplinary Treatment Approach

If you have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, your treatment options will vary depending on the severity of your condition, symptoms you may be experiencing and your complicating risk factors. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists offers you treatment and management therapies to help you thrive for a lifetime. These options include:

  • Alcohol septal ablation: Using a catheter, we inject an alcohol-based solution into your artery that supplies blood to your thickened heart muscle. This procedure destroys a small portion of your thickened heart muscle to reduce the obstructed blood flow.
  • Medication therapy: Various drugs can be used to relax your heart muscle, control your heart rate and improve blood flow through your heart chambers.
  • Myotomy/myectomy: Through open-heart surgery, we can remove a portion of your thickened heart muscle. We may also use surgery to repair or replace your damaged heart valves.
  • Pacemaker/implantable cardioverter-defibrillator devices (ICDs): The small device, implanted in your chest just under your collar bone, constantly monitors your heart rhythm. If it detects a dangerous rhythm, the device can pace your heart when it slows and introduce an electrical shock to restore its normal rhythm.
