Vascular & Endovascular Surgery

Vascular blood flow can be restored by a variety of techniques. Endovascular procedures are done inside the blood vessel. A small tube called a catheter is inserted in the artery with a small puncture in the groin. Angioplasty is used to widen or open a blockage in the artery and a stent may be placed to hold the artery open. The patient is sedated and is usually able to go home the same day.

Vascular surgery is an open procedure where an incision is made in the skin and down to the artery for repair. The patient requires general anesthesia and is admitted for a few days, depending on the surgery. Once blood flow is restored, the pain caused by lack of blood flow is greatly improved or gone.
