Other community partnerships

YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee

The Girls Night Out program is a partnership between Aurora and the YMCA that focuses on the mind, body and spirit of young women in 5th through 8th grades. Aurora provides services through sponsorships as well as health care service delivery.

The program includes activities at all 11 Metropolitan YMCA branches throughout the school year. These topics are addressed:

  • Nutrition counseling
  • Conflict resolution
  • Girl talk

In the past 2 years, the program has impacted the lives of over 1,100 young women in metropolitan Milwaukee.

Social Development Commission

Aurora Health Care started a partnership with the Social Development Commission's Head Start Program in 2000.

Head Start is a comprehensive child development program serving children from birth to age 5, pregnant women and their families. It is a child-focused program to develop school readiness of young children in low-income families.

Aurora has partnered with the Social Development Commission to provide health checks to its Head Start population. The program has impacted the lives of many Head Start participants with its focus on prevention and wellness.

Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee

The partnership with the Boys and Girls Club started in 2001. Aurora provides a health team to administer sports physicals to youth at the Boys and Girls Club sites during the spring, summer and fall. Since 2001, physicals have been provided to approximately 750 youth.

Milwaukee Christian Center

Aurora has served the Hmong and Laotian senior community at the Milwaukee Christian Center since 1997. Located on Milwaukee's south side, the partnership was formed to address gaps in health services for this growing population. Services are culturally sensitive and are provided by a registered nurse or nurse practitioner whose focus is prevention and wellness. Other health services may be provided or referred as appropriate. The majority of the target population reside in the immediate community surrounding the Center.

Services provided range from breast health awareness to flu immunizations and screenings. Coordination with Hmong and Laotian health providers in the community is an essential component of the services delivered.

Women Supporting Women

Women Supporting Women is a breast cancer survivor group. It is a partnership between Aurora and primarily women of color who have experienced breast cancer.

Founded in 1992, Women Supporting Women provides educational, spiritual and psychological support to breast cancer survivors and their loved ones.

The support group meets every third Saturday of the month, September through May, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the House of Peace, 1702 W. Walnut St., Milwaukee.
