Other community partnerships
YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee
The Girls Night Out program is a partnership between Aurora and the
YMCA that focuses on the mind, body and spirit of young women in 5th
through 8th grades. Aurora provides services through sponsorships as well
as health care service delivery.
The program includes activities at all 11 Metropolitan YMCA
branches throughout the school year. These topics are addressed:
- Nutrition counseling
- Conflict resolution
- Girl talk
In the past 2 years, the program has impacted the lives of over 1,100
young women in metropolitan Milwaukee.
Social Development Commission
Aurora Health Care started a partnership with the Social Development
Commission's Head Start Program in 2000.
Head Start is a comprehensive child development program serving
children from birth to age 5, pregnant women and their families. It is a
child-focused program to develop school readiness of young children
in low-income families.
Aurora has partnered with the Social Development Commission to provide
health checks to its Head Start population. The program has impacted the
lives of many Head Start participants with its focus on prevention and
wellness.
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee
The partnership with the Boys and Girls Club started in 2001. Aurora provides a health team to administer sports physicals
to youth at the Boys and Girls Club sites during
the spring, summer and fall. Since 2001, physicals have been provided to
approximately 750 youth.
Milwaukee Christian Center
Aurora has served the Hmong and Laotian senior community at
the Milwaukee Christian Center since 1997. Located on Milwaukee's south side, the
partnership was formed to address gaps in health services for this growing
population. Services are culturally sensitive and are provided by a
registered nurse or nurse practitioner whose focus is prevention and
wellness. Other health services may be provided or referred as
appropriate. The majority of the target population reside in the
immediate community surrounding the Center.
Services provided range from breast health awareness to flu
immunizations and screenings. Coordination with Hmong and Laotian health
providers in the community is an essential component of the services
delivered.
Women Supporting Women
Women Supporting Women is a breast cancer survivor group. It is a
partnership between Aurora and primarily women of color who have
experienced breast cancer. Founded in 1992, Women Supporting Women
provides educational, spiritual and psychological support to breast cancer
survivors and their loved ones. The support group meets every third
Saturday of the month, September through May, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the House of Peace, 1702 W. Walnut St., Milwaukee. |
