What is a Facelift and a Neck Lift?
A facelift and neck lift is also known as rhytidectomy. It’s a surgery performed to improve visible signs of aging on the face and neck. A facelift and neck lift can be performed individually, but they’re often performed together for opr performed individually, but they are often performed together for oprtimal improvement.id.to eltimal improvement.
A facelift is actually a number of procedures combined. If you decide to move forward with a facelift, you may have any combination of eye surgery, a brow lift, a neck lift, a midface lift and a lower facelift.
Why Consider a Facelift and Neck Lift?
As we age, muscles in our face weaken and we lose some of the collagen in our skin that helps the skin hold its shape. Faces and necks are usually the first parts of the body to show age – often well before you start feeling older. If you’re bothered by signs of aging in your face or neck, a facelift and neck lift might be right for you.
A facelift and neck lift can reduce or correct:
- Sagging skin in the midface
- Puffiness, sagging, wrinkles and discoloration around the eyes
- Deep creases from the nose extending to the corners of the mouth
- Jowls caused by loss of muscle tone in the face and neck
A facelift and neck lift also can remove fat that has fallen from where it should be, and loose skin and excess fat under the chin and jaw that give the appearance of a “double chin.”
How are Facelifts and Neck Lifts Performed?
Before your procedure begins, you will be given anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Your surgeon will determine the type of anesthesia based on what is best for you.
There are many possible combinations of procedures performed during a facelift, including eye surgery, brow lifts and neck lifts. If you’re thinking about a facelift or neck lift, talk with your surgeon about the results you hope to achieve. He or she will consider all of the options, including the extent of change you wish to see, and will decide which procedures will provide the most benefit for you. You may find that a mini-facelift will be enough for you, or you might learn that a full facelift with neck lift will be most likely to offer the results you are hoping to achieve.
Many different techniques are available to cosmetic plastic surgeons today, making facelift surgery reliable and long-lasting. Two types of facelifts are a traditional facelift and a limited-incision facelift.
We recommend that you talk with your surgeon before your facelift procedure to find out exactly what procedures will be used and what type of results you can realistically expect.
