Dermatology Specialties

Within dermatology, there are three subcategories – medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, and laboratory dermatology. Medical dermatology focuses on treating diseases of the hair, skin, nails and fat. Surgical dermatology focuses surgical treatment of diseases of the hair, skin, nails, and fat. Laboratory dermatology includes dermatopathology and immunodermatology. At Aurora Health Care, we offer medical, laboratory, and surgical dermatology services, including cosmetic plastic surgery.

Procedural Dermatology

Procedural dermatologists are board certified dermatologists who have received additional fellowship training in the subspecialty of procedural dermatology. Procedural dermatology focuses on studying, diagnosing, and surgically treating diseases of the skin, hair and nails, mucous membranes and subcutaneous tissue. One of the procedures that procedural dermatologists are often trained to perform is Mohs surgery. They are also often trained in other types of specialized surgeries that are cosmetic, reconstructive and oncologic in nature.
