Rashes

Learn About Treatment for Skin rashes

What are Rashes?

A rash is an outbreak of skin inflammation or an area of discolored skin. There are many types and causes of rashes. Most rashes are not serious, but some can require medical treatment, and a few may indicate a serious underlying health condition.

Some common rashes are eczema, poison ivy, swimmers’ itch, rosacea, ringworm, shingles, contact dermatitis and heat rash, but there are many types of rashes with a variety of causes.

If you have a rash that does not go away within a day or two, we recommend contacting a dermatologist to make an appointment to have it evaluated. And if you have a rash that began shortly after taking a new medication or your rash is accompanied by a fever or other signs of illness, contact your doctor right away.

How are Rashes Treated?

At Aurora Health Care, our dermatologists will prescribe treatment for rashes depending upon the type of rash, the severity of the rash and what caused it. Treatments may include topical creams and medications or oral medications.

If your rash appears to be severe and you are unable to see a dermatologist right away, contact your primary care doctor.
