Aurora ENTs Diagnose and Treat Conditions of the Ears, Nose and Throat

From hearing loss to sinus problems to voice-box disorders – and everything in between – ear, nose and throat specialists (ENTs) at Aurora Health Care diagnose conditions that affect the head and neck, and perform a variety of treatments, including minimally invasive microsurgeries and other advanced surgical techniques, to help improve their patients’ quality of life.

Learn more about some of the conditions treated at Aurora and the treatments used to improve or cure them. Because the list of conditions and treatments related to ENT is so extensive, we’ve grouped them by category.

Facial Trauma

Some types of facial trauma that are commonly treated by ENTs are fractures (including cranial, zygomatic and maxillary fractures) and lacerations.

Head and Neck Cancer

At Aurora Health Care, our Head and Neck Cancer Program focuses on treating cancers of the head and neck using the best, most advanced treatment options available. Leading-edge microsurgery is a welcome option for head and neck cancers because it can effectively treat the cancers without incisions, leading to shorter recovery times, reduced pain and less chance of infection.

Larynx and Voice Disorders

ENTs at Aurora Health Care diagnose and treat many disorders of the larynx (voice box) and voice in both children and adults. Some of the conditions Aurora ENTs treat are speech-language pathologies, including swallowing disorders (such as dysphagia), cleft palate and hearing loss, vocal cord dysfunction, including paradoxical vocal fold dysfunction, as well as vocal cord paralysis.

Nasal and Sinus Disorders

There are many nasal and sinus disorders that Aurora ear, nose and throat specialists treat. Two of the more advanced treatments used at Aurora for nasal and sinus disorders are image-guided endoscopic sinus surgery and balloon sinuplasty.

Neck Conditions

At Aurora Health Care, we offer surgical procedures to treat disorders and conditions related to the neck, including parathyroid disease and thyroid disease.

Orbits (Conditions of the Eye Orbits)

At Aurora Health Care, we offer surgical procedures to treat disorders and conditions related to the eye orbits, including orbital fractures and thyroid-associated orbitopahty/Graves ophthalmopathy. Ear, nose and throat specialists (ENTs) at Aurora are specially trained to perform multiple surgical procedures of the orbits. Two of the procedures ENTs perform at Aurora are tear duct surgery (DCR) and orbital decompression for Graves’ disease.

Otology: External Ear

ENTs offer many treatments for disorders of the external ear – some medical and some surgical. Two of the surgical treatments ENTs at Aurora Health Care perform are stapedotomy and meatoplasty/canalplasty.

Otology: Inner Ear

Ear, nose and throat specialists at Aurora Health Care treat many disorders of the inner ear. Some of the conditions they treat are Meniere’s disease and vestibular and balance disorders. Treatments for inner-ear disorders range from medical to surgical, and include cochlear implants and implantable hearing aids (such as BAHA).

Otology: Middle Ear

ENTs at Aurora Health Care treat many disorders of the middle ear. Some of the conditions they treat are glomus tumors (paragangliomas), ruptured or perforated eardrums, otosclerosis, infections, cholesteatoma growth and fluid buildup in the ear. Some of the treatments offered at Aurora are glomus tumor resection, mastoidectomy and myringotomy and tube placement.

Otology: Hearing Disorders

At Aurora, ENTs diagnose and treat hearing disorders. Some of the tests used in diagnosis are auditory brainstem response (ABR) audiometry and otacoustic emission testing (OAE). ENTs also offer general hearing aid evaluation and testing.

Pediatric ENT

ENTs offer many treatments for children with disorders of the ears, nose and throat, ranging from cleft lip and palate repair to tonsillectomies – and everything in between. Our pediatric ENT specialists understand the unique needs of children and know that they are not just “little adults.” Although some of the treatments we offer are similar for both children and adults, the care we provide is not the same. We are dedicated to making sure your child gets the best possible care from a compassionate staff that truly cares about your child’s welfare.

Salivary Gland Disorders

Some of the salivary gland disorder treatments offered by Aurora ENTs are parotidectomy, salivary duct calculi extraction, sialendoscopy and submandibular gland resection.

Skull Base Disorders

Ear, nose and throat specialists (ENTs) at Aurora Health Care diagnose and treat disorders of the skull base, including the pituitary gland. One of the procedures Aurora ENTs perform is a minimally invasive surgical technique called endoscopic anterior skull base surgery. This type of minimally invasive surgery involves the use of a tiny camera called an endoscope that is placed in the skull base through the nose (transnasal). With help of the endoscope, ENTs can resect large tumors near the skull base without an incision, which can alleviate retraction on the brain. The endoscope offers additional benefits as well, making tumor resection a safer procedure.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea

ENTs diagnose and treat a number of conditions that can lead to snoring and sleep apnea. Sometimes snoring and sleep apnea are caused by problems with structures in the nose, mouth or throat, such as the tongue, tonsils and epiglottis. Aurora Health Care ENTs perform surgical procedures to correct these problems in hopes of curing or improving snoring and sleep apnea.

Trachea and Esophagus Disorders

ENTs diagnose and treat a number of conditions of the trachea and esophagus, including swallowing disorders and Zenker’s diverticulum. Aurora Health Care ENTs perform surgical procedures to correct these problems. A few of the procedures offered at Aurora are esophageal dilation, tracheostomy and Endoscopic Zenker’s diverticulectomy.
