Team members

Director, Regional Epilepsy Center

Dr. George (Chip) Morris is the Director of the Regional Epilepsy Center at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center. A prior Professor of Neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Morris completed his medical training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center followed by an internship and Neurology Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin -- Madison. After completing his Epilepsy and EEG Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Morris remained on the faculty as a clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology and a member of the University of Cincinnati Comprehensive Epilepsy Program until 1990 when he joined the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1995 and Professor in 2001. He was board certified in Neurology in 1989 and Clinical Neurophysiology including EEG and Evoked Potentials in 1991.

Dr. Morris developed the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin and now St Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee and been involved in an active clinical trial program involving pivotal trials for the new anticonvulsant agents. He has created the components of an active surgery program with well over 200 temporal lobectomies completed in the first 10 years.

Dr. Morris is involved in a number of research areas including neuroimaging with magnetic resonance spectroscopy and functional MRI. He has developed, with others, a group of centers involved in post-marketing assessments of new anticonvulsants and is actively involved in assessments of new technologies including the Vagal Nerve Stimulator.

Specializing in women and epilepsy

Dr. Veronica Sosa is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in addressing the concerns of women with epilepsy through comprehensive care including the surgical management of epilepsy.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Dr. Sosa completed a neurology residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Then at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, she completed an epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology fellowship which focused on the treatment of both adult and pediatric patients.

Prior to joining the Center Dr. Sosa was a senior staff neurologist, the director of Clinical Neurophysiology Residency and the coordinator of EEG/Epilepsy Fellowship program at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Specializing in pediatrics neurology

Dr. Christopher Inglese applies his knowledge of the etiology and mechanisms of epilepsy to help patients live as seizure free as possible. His research and clinical work has helped not only to improve the quality of life for people with epilepsy, but also to dispel common myths about the disease.

He received his medical education at the University of Bologna, Faculty of Medicine, in Italy. Dr. Ignlese served his internship and a residency in pediatrics at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut. He was a resident in General Neurology and Fellow in Child Neurology at the State University-Kings County Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He is board certified in neurology and pediatric neurology.

Staff Neuropsychologist

Joseph M. Cunningham, PhD, ABPP/CN is board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology and the American Board of Professional Psychology. Before joining the staff at St. Luke’s Neuroscience Center, Dr. Cunningham worked in the Brain Injury Program at Curative Rehabilitation Services in Milwaukee. Dr. Cunningham received his BA in psychology from Grinnell College in Iowa and was conferred his PhD in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. After finishing a general clinical psychology internship at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center and the University Michigan Hospitals, he completed a two-year postdoctoral residency in neuropsychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Coordinator, Clinical Trials Program

Pam Smith, RN, BSN, Clinic and Research Coordinator, has been coordinating clinical research trials with Dr. George Morris since 1997. Her nursing background includes critical care nursing, assistant nurse manager clinical research unit, Duke University Medical Center, hemodialysis and supervisory positions. Her role at the Regional Epilepsy Center includes management of the clinic and coordinating the clinical drug and device trials.

Coordinator, Monitoring and Surgery Program

Jennifer Burgos, RN, graduated in 1995 from the Waukesha County Technical College Nursing Program. She has extensive clinical nursing experience in Internal Medicine, General Neurology and Epilepsy. Her current role in the Regional Epilepsy Center includes coordinating the inpatient monitoring unit and surgical evaluation of epilepsy patients.

Nursing and Research Coordinator

Christine Restivo-Pritzl, RN, BSMN, is a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse. Prior to joining the clinic, her nursing experience was in medical and surgical neurology in the acute care neurosciences unit at St. Luke's Medical Center. Christine launched her inpatient nursing practice as a staff nurse, progressing to supervisory roles, which included the oversight of orientation and continuing education of the unit's staff. She is presently pursuing her master's degree in nursing, with the objective of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Her role at the center includes the Clinical Nurse Coordinator for the pediatric population and Clinical Research Coordinator of pediatric research.

Peggy Hanson, RN, began her nursing career at St. Luke's Medical Center in 1982 working on the Orthopedic/Neurosurgical Unit as a staff/charge nurse until 1996. She then spent the next 7.5 years working in GI/Pulmonary Services as a staff nurse and team leader where she administered sedation and nursing care for patients undergoing various procedures. In both areas, she was instrumental in the education and orientation of new employees acting as a mentor for many. Immediately prior to joining the Epilepsy Center staff, she worked in the Clinical Trials office of the Clinical Research Department for 2 years and will use those skills assisting the doctors with their various research projects as well as acting as a clinical coordinator for Dr. Sosa.
