Reiki

Reiki ("RAY-key") is a Japanese word for universal life-force energy. It is a simple yet powerful Eastern medicine healing technique. During Reiki, a trained practitioner helps to guide the flow of energy through a person’s body. This flow of energy, or connection, enhances the body's ability to heal.

At Aurora Health Care, Reiki fits well into the medical focus that includes mind/body awareness and preventive health care. It can be used with many physical and emotional conditions to bring balance into a person's life.

About Reiki

Reiki was developed in the early 1900s and brought to the United States in the 1930s. Today, Reiki is used in many health care settings, such as hospitals, hospice, mental health clinics, nursing homes, and home health care.

Reiki is a supportive healing practice used to help improve health and well-being. It can be used to address many physical and emotional conditions, bringing balance to your life. Reiki can also be used as a preventive health care measure or alongside traditional care.

During Reiki, the practitioner places his or her hands in a series of locations on various parts of the body. The placement should never be intrusive or uncomfortable, nor should there be any pressure.

What Happens During a Reiki Session?

A traditional Reiki treatment is offered in a quiet setting with the person sitting or lying down, fully clothed. Using a gentle touch on or above the body, a trained Reiki practitioner helps guide the flow of energy through the body. A full treatment session may take up to 60 minutes.
