For new patients

For your appointment, please bring any pertinent medical records (including doctor's notes and X-rays or other diagnostic images) or arrange to have your doctor send that information to the MS Center. The staff will try to review your records before meeting with you.

You will typically be interviewed first by a nurse regarding your medical history, who will discuss medications or other treatments that you have tried. A physician will then meet with you to discuss your medical history and provide a physical examination. He/she will ask about your physical and psychological symptoms that may be related to MS.

MS Center staff will then prepare a treatment plan that might include additional diagnostic tests, such as magnetic resonance imaging or blood tests. If you are suffering from a current MS episode, treatments will be recommended. Therapies may also be recommended to help prevent an MS episode.

In either case, a program that includes nutrition, regular exercise, physical therapy and emotional support may be prescribed. Be sure to discuss with the staff other issues or difficulties that may affect your health and well-being.

Insurance coverage

The Regional MS Center at St. Luke's Hospital accepts a wide variety of insurance plans. Because plans change frequently, you should contact your insurance plan administrator or the MS Center staff.
