Nationally recognized Primary Stroke Center

Time is of the essence when a stroke occurs.  That's why Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center has established a Stroke Center according to standards established by the American Stroke Association and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), which evaluates and accredits all major health care organizations and programs in the U.S.

The criteria for accreditation includes around-the-clock staffing by stroke specialists, as well as access to state-of-the-art diagnostics.

The certification of Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center and Aurora St. Luke's South Shore as a Primary Stroke Center is your assurance of the highest quality care. If you or someone you know shows signs of stroke, don't hesitate. Seek specialized treatment immediately.

About St. Luke's Stroke Center

  • Stroke team available 24-hours a day, every day, includes specialized ER physicians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, intensivists and nurses
  • Ability to administer a "clot-blocking" drug within 1 hour of ER admission
  • 24-hour-a-day diagnostic capability, including CT and MRI
  • Treatment within 15 minutes of presentation to hospital
  • Advanced neurosurgery capabilities including neuroendovascular therapies such as intra-arterial thrombolytics and clot retrieval
  • Specialized neurosurgical intensive care unit for stroke patients
  • Monitored acute care unit with multidisciplinary team of medical specialists
  • Stroke Rehabilitation Program
  • Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited inpatient rehabilitation unit
