What is Male Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction in men, also known as gynecomastia surgery, is a surgical procedure done to correct gynecomastia, which is enlarged or over-developed breasts in men.
How is Male Breast Reduction Surgery Performed?
To reduce breast size in men, a surgical procedure called male breast reduction can be performed. During the procedure, your surgeon will remove excess fatty tissue, glandular tissue or both. In addition to removing tissue and fat, male breast reduction surgery may also involve removing excess skin and/or changing the size, shape or location of the areola (darker skin surrounding the nipple).
Prior to the surgery, you will be given anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the surgery.
If the cause of your gynecomastia is excess fatty tissue, your surgeon will likely perform liposuction to remove fat from your chest.
If you have excess glandular tissue or skin, your surgeon will also use a procedure called excision. Excision involves cutting out and removing the tissue and/or skin that is causing your Gynecomastia. In some cases, surgeons perform both liposuction and excision procedures together for best results.
Male breast reduction surgery sometimes includes reducing the size or changing the shape of your areola or repositioning your nipple to a more natural male contour.
