Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Program

Our inpatient programs offer the highest standards of care to patients who have physical limitations caused by stroke or other neurological disorders. We have expanded to outpatient locations so that patients and their families have the option of being treated at a location convenient to their home or work while still receiving the same high quality, comprehensive care.

Experienced staff

Aurora Rehabilitation Center's neuro-rehabilitation team consists of a physician, physical and occupational therapist, and speech pathologist that are specially trained to treat patients with neurological deficits. During the patient's treatment, the team meets on a regular basis with the family to discuss progress and implementation of future treatment strategies. Additional professionals may be involved as necessary.

Individualized treatment

The team evaluates the patient's needs and abilities to establish a rehabilitation program. Individualized patient goals are established in each of the following areas:

  • To challenge each person to reach their best physical, emotional, reasoning, social and work potential through a team treatment approach
  • To educate the person and family about rehabilitation and how each team member facilitates the treatment process
  • To assist the patient and family with adjusting to a new lifestyle
  • To maintain or improve the patient's level of independence after discharge through the use of community resources

Comprehensive care provided

The comprehensive treatment program consists of 1-on-1 and group sessions that include:

  • Functional mobility training
  • Visual-perceptual skills
  • Balance/vestibular
  • Gait training
  • Home management skills
  • Safety
  • Self-care abilities/ADLs
  • Fine motor skills
  • Communication and cognition (expressive skills, receptive skills, decision making and problem solving, safety/judgment)
  • Skin care issues
  • Aquatic therapy
  • Transfer training

Additional services that are available to our patients include osteoporosis education, wound care, continence education and wound healing. Various support groups are available for patients and their families as well.
