treatment
We provide care for
a variety of voice disorders which may result from:
Misuse, overuse or abuse of voice (hyperfunction)
Hoarseness lasting one month (dysphonia)
Vocal fold paralysis
Laryngeal cancer
Parkinson's disease
Comprehensive care
provided
Voice evaluation consists of:
A complete voice medical history
Perceptual and acoustic measures of vocal quality, pitch, loudness and resonance
Videostraboscopic examination of larynx – where an otolaryngologist (ENT) and speech
language pathologist (SLP) explore for pathology or disease and examine the physiology or movement patterns of vocal cord vibrations. Upon completion of the exam, the ENT and
SLP collaborate and determine appropriate treatment including medical management
(medications, surgery) or voice treatment.
Voice treatment available at the clinics consists of 5 components:
Vocal hygiene program (education and prevention)
Massage
Counseling
Voice treatment
Community fitness exercise
Referrals to other medical disciplines are made as necessary:
Gastroenterology
Allergy
Pulmonary
Respiratory therapy
