Project Assistance

Project AssistanceThe AUWMG Research Committee is responsible for supporting, growing and coordinating research and scholarly activity among AUWMG faculty and Aurora residents, students and fellows. The AUWMG Research Committee, chaired by Dennis J. Baumgardner, MD, and supported by Karen Blanchard, provides strategic oversight of AUWMG research activities. Committee members in 2012 included: Lee Banfi;Ron Cisler, PhD; Vani Nilakantan, PhD; Megan Sheffer, PhD; Kiley Bernhard, MPH; Lisa Hanson, PhD; Ariba Khan, MD; and Marlon Mundt, PhD.

Faculty members obtain release time to perform research activities by applying to the Research Committee’s project review process. Feedback is provided by the Research Committee for each project. A variety of funding sources support these projects. The Center for Urban Population Health (CUPH) serves as the primary source of facilitation for faculty and resident/student/fellow projects. Dr. Baumgardner directs these activities within the CUPH.

Residents, fellows, medical students and Master of Public Health students also receive support for required or elective scholarly projects. These may be done independently by one or more learners, or in conjunction with ongoing or occasional faculty projects or national studies. In 2012, AUWMG Research/CUPH formally assisted or mentored 36 residents, students and fellows.

CUPH health services research support team currently includes Kiley Bernhard (AUWMG studies) and Hannah Louks (Wisconsin Research and Education Network [WREN] studies). Additional support for AUWMG research is obtained from members of the CUPH Design and Analysis Core, from the Information Technology Core of the CUPH (Andy Marek, Jason Schwebke), and from Karen Blanchard.
