Open-Access Robotic Biorepository and Informatics Technology (ORBIT) is producing solid outcomes and advancing personalized medicine.
- Enhanced ability to recruit patients into clinical trials through identification of qualifying characteristics via partnership with Oracle.
- Evaluation of published biomarkers to help define which molecular diagnostics are worth developing.
- Support of a Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) study of chronic and recurrent pancreatitis performed at the University of Pittsburgh.
- Testing of approximately 1,000 blood samples for analysis of CYP2C19 and its potential value in guiding the use of clopidogrel in patients receiving coronary stents.
- Delivery of six Continuing Medical Education (CME) accredited lectures on biomarkers and genomics.
- Completion of a study evaluating the safety and function of the GeNO Nitric Oxide delivery system, with the goal of helping to develop a less expensive and safe mechanism of providing nitric oxide to patients with pulmonary hypertension and heart failure. The results were accepted for presentation at the 2012 International Society Heart and Lung Transplantation meeting.
Participation in Lung Injury Knowledge Network (LINK) study:
- Data collection from four hospitals enabling evaluation of intensive care unit (ICU) adherence to best practice guidelines when managing patients on ventilators.
- Oversight and organization of education of best practices for vent management in ICUs at the participating hospitals (nurses and respiratory therapists participated).
- Follow up data collection from the four participating hospitals enabling evaluation of post-education best practice adherence.
- End result: modified care in ICU to reduce mortality, time in ICU and time on vent.
