Meet our Medical Leaders

Theodore (Ted) H. Gertel, MD

Dr. Ted Gertel specializes in arthroscopic surgery and the treatment of work and sports-related injuries of the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle. A graduate of Harvard College and the New York University School of Medicine, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine followed by a Sports Medicine Fellowship from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.

His establishment of a Center of Excellence for elbow tendonitis (commonly referred to as "Tennis Elbow" or "Golfer's Elbow") includes a highly successful, minimally invasive surgical technique for the treatment of persistent, recurrent or exceptionally severe diagnoses. In addition, Dr. Gertel’s extensive research on the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) has resulted in a presentation to an international forum of peers, as well as the publication of a paper within the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Currently, Dr. Gertel heads the Department of Surgery for Orthopaedics at Aurora Sinai Medical Center and is the Senior Medical Advisor to the Aurora Sports Medicine Institute. Out of the clinic, his sports-related activities include Team Physician/Orthopaedic Surgeon for Marquette University Athletics, consultant to the Milwaukee Bucks, and previously Team Physician/Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Team.

Dr. Gertel is a Clinical Associate Professor in the College of Health Sciences at Marquette University, as well as directing the Body Composition Testing program at Milwaukee Orthopaedic Group, Ltd. (MOGL). Recently honored for his personal physical fitness transformation, Dr. Gertel was named Grand Champion in the Body-for-LIFE 2006 Challenge competition.

Gerard (Gerry) Adler, MD

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Grand Rapids (MI) Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program, Dr. Adler is board certified in orthopedic surgery with a special expertise in sports medicine and the arthroscopic reconstruction of the knee and shoulder. In 2007, based on his excellent test scores, he was granted a subspecialty certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Adler has treated athletes of all levels – professional, college, high school and amateur. His surgical experience includes procedures on two of the America's Cup professional sailors. Additionally, he performs joint replacement surgery and two forms of cartilage transplantation.

His interest in orthopedics stems from a personal involvement in sports, including college football, which culminated in trips to orthopedic surgeons for various athletic injuries. His research has led to the publishing of an article on the anterior cruciate ligament in the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Presently, he is the medical leader for the Aurora Sports Medicine Institute - Oconomowoc site. He also served as the Chief of Surgery at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital from 1997-1999.

Jonathan Charles Henry, MD

An orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Henry is the medical leader for Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, Dr. Henry completed his orthopedic surgical training at University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Additionally, he holds a sports medicine fellowship from Ohio State University.

As an active member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, Dr. Henry has presented original research at various national meetings and has published articles on a number of sports medicine related topics. He has provided sports medicine care for a variety of teams ranging in levels from recreational, high school, major university to semi-professional.

Dr. Henry's athletic background includes participation in varsity crew (rowing) while at UW-Madison '87-91. He currently enjoys cross-country skiing, cycling and running.
