Nearly 80% of Wisconsin adults are at risk for health problems --
from diabetes to heart disease -- due to obesity.
The 2000 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
indicate that a person's risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and
hypertension actually increase when their BMI is greater than 22. Here are the
sad facts:
The proportion of obese U.S. adults nearly doubled in the last decade
Almost 80% of obese adults have diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary
heart disease, gallbladder disease, high blood cholesterol levels or
osteoarthritis
At least 300,000 deaths a year in the U.S. are due to
obesity
About 44% of adult women and 30% of adult men report trying to lose weight
