Adolescent Medicine

Adolescence is a time of change and challenge. This extraordinary stage of development – from puberty through young adulthood – encompasses a physical, emotional, intellectual, psychological and social transformation.

The Aurora Women’s Health and Wellness Center offers a unique approach to health care for today’s young women. Our caring experts are sensitive to the specific health care issues that are common during teenage years and take the time to listen and provide education, diagnosis and treatment in a respectful environment.

As a gentle introduction to health care, we encourage young adults to take an active role in their own well-being and create a successful transition to adult health care.

We support the growth and development of young adults through:

  • Adolescent gynecology
  • Family planning
  • Prevention
  • Primary care
  • Psychosocial/emotional health
  • Support and advocacy

We also understand adolescents’ need for confidentiality and trust. We provide a nonjudgmental approach and serve as a patient advocate while still maintaining an appropriate balance between the patient, their family and significant others.

Along with addressing their changing physical health care needs, we incorporate guidance and support to help adolescents who may face lifestyle choices and peer pressure regarding issues such as:

  • Abusive relationships
  • Body image
  • Depression
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Eating disorders
  • Sexuality
  • Sexually transmitted infections

Adolescent medicine is a subspecialty that offers a unique complement to primary care. Sensitive care is provided by a board-certified gynecologist who has a special interest in the health care of adolescents.
