Are you at risk for colorectal cancer?

Are you age 50 or older?
Risk for colorectal cancer increases with age. 90% of people diagnosed are 50 years old or older.
Do you have a personal history of colon/rectal polyps or cancer?
Having colorectal problems in the past puts you at risk for the future as well.
Do you have a family history of colon/rectal polyps or cancer?
A family history of colorectal problems can mean that you are likely to develop them yourself.
Has a doctor ever told you that you have inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's?
Having an inflamed bowel over an extended period of time may put you at greater risk for the disease.
Have you ever had breast, uterine or ovarian cancer?
Having these other cancers increases your risk for colorectal cancer as well.
Are you of Jewish descent?
Those with a Jewish ethnic background are at increased risk.
Is your diet high in fat?
A diet that contains mostly foods that are high in fat increases your risk.
Do you consume more than one alcoholic beverage per day?
Colorectal cancer has been linked with heavy alcohol use.
Are you overweight?
If you are very overweight, your risk of dying from colorectal cancer is increased.
Would you describe the amount of daily exercise you get as minimal or none?
Physical activity helps remove waste from the colon, decreasing the risk of colorectal cancer.
Have you ever smoked?
Some of the cancer causing substances can be swallowed and cause colorectal cancer.
Have you ever been screened for colorectal cancer?
