Prostate Cancer Study (RTOG0518)

The purpose of this study is to compare the effects, good and/or bad, of a drug, 

zoledronic acid plus vitamin D and a calcium supplement, with vitamin D 

and a calcium supplement alone.  This study is being done to find out if zoledronic acid prevents bone fractures

by strengthening bones better than vitamin D and calcium alone.

 To participate in this study you must:

  • Have been diagnosed with high-grade and/or locally advanced prostate cancer within the last 12 months
  • Plan to receive radiation therapy or have begun radiation therapy within the last 8 weeks
  • Receive hormone therapy as a part of your treatment
