Annual Report

“We gain inspiration from our research subjects, who willingly participate in studies, often with little benefit for themselves. We dedicate this report to the thousands of patients we are partnering with to advance health and medicine for future generations.” — Randall Lambrecht, PhD, research institute president and Advocate Aurora Health system vice president

Overview

Building on Our Strong Research Foundations

In 2018, Advocate Health Care and Aurora Health Care merged to create one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States — Advocate Aurora Health. Integration of these two contiguous health systems will result in more research opportunities to further improve patient outcomes and transform the lives of individuals and populations.

Our two research institutes, Advocate Research Institute and Aurora Research Institute, are working to integrate into a single Advocate Aurora Health Research Institute.

Annual Reports

Research Highlights and Success

With this inaugural annual report, our goal is to share research highlights from last year in which both entities worked toward transforming care.

The research institute supports more than 1,350 unique research projects, including preclinical studies, clinical trials and outcomes research projects, and other research activities. We work to translate this important research into practical and more effective treatments for our patients.

This translation of scientific research into clinical application makes Advocate Aurora Health an important contributor to the advance of medical knowledge worldwide.

Our successes include:

  • Diverse research: The institute boasts a well-balanced research portfolio with projects in oncology, cardiology, neuroscience, pediatric and specialty research areas, which includes behavioral health, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, primary care and women’s health.
  • Sound infrastructure: The institute’s research is supported by a Research Subject Protection Program and compliance, finance, human resources, information technology, legal and pharmacy departments.
  • International reach: Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews has readers in more than 180 countries and all 50 states. Read articles about the latest medical advances in Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews.
