Specialty Research Programs

World-Class Research Focused On Your Needs.

Aurora Health Care is home to leading research programs in cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurological disorders. Across all our programs, one thing remains the same: our commitment to helping people live well.

The Aurora Difference

Specialty Research Programs

Our specialty research programs at Aurora bring together expertise, data and scientific discoveries that are driving translational research. With each clinical trial and research project, we are changing the course of care – making it safer, more effective and more precise.

Our specialty research programs are exploring:

  • The effects of aging on the heart: We are one of a few research centers in the world exploring the biology of the aging heart. Our experts are learning more about the processes that give way to age-related cardiovascular disease so we can someday reverse it. Read more about the Center for Integrative Research on Cardiovascular Aging (CIRCA).
  • Breast cancer care: Aurora is home to an innovative research program that combines data along with nationally renowned expertise. We are advancing all aspects of breast cancer care including diagnosis, treatment and survival. Learn more about Translational Oncology Research: Quest for Understanding & Exploration (TORQUE).
  • Brain tumors and neurological disorders: We are using first-in-the-world technologies to remove brain tumors that were previously considered inoperable. We are also finding ways to help people with neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis live a better quality of life. Read more about Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute (ANII) research.
  • Access to early-phase clinical trials: Aurora offers access to early-phase clinical trials. Early-phase trials establish dosing requirements and document side effects of new treatments. Our national recognition in clinical trial leadership helps participants have a good experience. Find out more about early-phase clinical trials.
  • A patient-centered approach to health care transformation: We are bringing together Aurora's diverse resources and research expertise to accelerate projects focused on transforming health care delivery, improving outcomes related to quality and cost of care, and advancing the health and well-being initiatives that affect patients and populations. Our Research

Specialty Research in Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer and Neurological Disorders

Our specialty research interests include:

  • Participation in national research networks: We are one of 34 sites nationwide participating in a prestigious research network that give people access to clinical trials closer to home. Read more about our participation in the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP).
  • Ways to improve quality of life: Nothing matters more to us than restoring people’s well-being, which is why we are exploring research projects to improve quality of life. For example, we are helping cancer survivors regain strength after treatment with a unique triathlon training program. Find out more about Team Phoenix: Survivorship Redefined.
  • Innovation through collaboration: We are working with biotech and pharmaceutical (drug) companies, as well as research programs across the country. These collaborations extend the reach of our work and are helping us forge new paths in caring for complex conditions. We welcome inquiries from potential collaborators: Collaborate with us.
  • Application of research through technology: We are harnessing the power of Aurora’s system-wide electronic medical record to advance medicine. For example, findings from our CIRCA laboratory studies help us tailor treatments for people with certain types of heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias).
  • Safer, more precise surgical techniques: Operating suites at Aurora feature leading-edge neurosurgical technologies. We are perfecting techniques using these tools to improve the lives of people with brain tumors and neurological disorders. Learn about one person’s experience: brain gain.
