Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute

The Aurora Difference

Improving Care Through World-Class Neuroscience Research

We are on track toward developing safer, more effective treatments thanks to first-in-the-world neurosurgery technologies and innovative research. Our work holds promise for giving more people a happy, healthy future.

Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute

Aurora Health Care is home to a unique research environment dedicated to improving care for people with brain tumors and neurological disorders. Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute brings together world-renowned expertise and extensive scientific resources, including a dedicated neuroanatomical laboratory. This dedicated lab includes special tools and equipment that make it possible to view brain structures in exquisite detail.

Our team of researchers is bound by an unwavering commitment to finding better ways of diagnosing and treating brain tumors and neurological disorders.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Delivering best-in-class care: Aurora is home to a neurosurgeon who is among the world’s leading experts in minimally invasive brain tumor removal. In fact, doctors from across Wisconsin and around the world look to our expertise when it comes to their most complex cases. Meet the team.
  • Participating in prestigious research networks: We are one of 34 programs in the country participating in the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). Our participation gives people access to more trials closer to home than ever before, including about 50 NCORP-sponsored clinical trials. Find out more about our neurology and brain tumor clinical trials and participation in the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program.
  • Holding ourselves to the highest standards: Nothing is more important to us than the safety, comfort and wellness of our clinical trial participants. This is why all members of our research and clinical trials team adhere to the highest ethical standards. Find out more about integrity and quality.

Our Research

Research for Neurological Disorders and Brain Tumors

The broad scope of our research is helping us learn more about brain tumors and neurological disorders as well as the best ways to treat them.

Our research interests include:

  • Accessing hard-to-reach brain tumors: Aurora is the first program in the world using surgical tools with 3-D imaging and GPS positioning. These technologies allow us to safely remove brain tumors that were previously considered inoperable. Find out more about brain tumor translational research.
  • Offering early-phase clinical trials: Aurora offers early-phase clinical trials, giving people access to new treatments before they are widely available. Learn more about early-phase clinical trials.
  • Improving quality of life: We are helping people with neurological disorders, like multiple sclerosis, through an international five-year drug study. Our goal is to learn more about drug side effects like kidney problems and find ways to prevent them. Learn more about neurology and brain tumor research.
  • Expanding our knowledge of complex brain structures: Scientists in our dedicated neuroanatomical laboratory are studying complex structures deep within the brain. This information helps us plan procedures that preserve more healthy brain tissue. Find out more about our Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center Laboratories.
