Innovation Development

The Innovation Development team sits at the crossroads of scientific discovery and clinical practice. We manage intellectual property and licensing agreements. This allows Aurora Health Care to offer new and innovative technologies, devices and drugs to our patients.

Overview

Managing Successful Innovation

Researchers and physicians at Aurora develop new devices, innovations and treatments.

The Innovation Development team works with these innovators to bring these important new treatments into our hospitals and clinics and to other health care systems.

We do this by:

  • Protecting the intellectual property rights of our innovators
  • Licensing the use of medical devices, innovations or treatments within Aurora
  • Licensing out the use of Aurora innovations to other health care systems, institutions or companies
  • Piloting the innovations in small studies to show effectiveness and potential

Protection

Intellectual Property Policies: The Aurora Advantage

We are experts in managing intellectual property processes and policies, patents and licensing.

Because these issues are complex, and every innovation is different, we formulate the best way forward for each project based on its unique merits and requirements. We will walk you through the steps necessary to protect your innovation.

Pilot Studies

Rolling Out Your Innovation

Innovators participate in pilot studies – small, preliminary studies – to demonstrate the safety, effectiveness and benefits of their devices or treatments.

We support early-stage pilots that have a high potential to positively affect care and could have future commercial value.

When your innovation is ready, we will help with the administrative and legal support you need to set up, manage and carry out your pilot. We will help you with:

  • Prototyping
  • Medicinal chemistry
  • FDA and regulatory assessment
  • Start-up company design and structure
  • Seed funding (through external foundation and early-stage investment community contacts)
  • Protocol development and review
  • Principle investigator training and certification
  • Patient consent design
  • General business and innovation consulting
