General Information

Valuables will be sent home with your family or placed in security. Mail, plants and flowers will be accepted and delivered to your room. Live plants and flowers may not be received in ICU. Latex balloons will not be allowed in the hospital, but mylar balloons are acceptable. Food may be brought in within dietary restrictions. A doctor’s order is required for alcoholic beverages. Visitors are reminded that we are a smoke-free institution.

ICU Family Waiting Area

The ICU Family Waiting Area is located at the entrance to the unit on the second and third floors. Rest areas, quiet rooms, telephones and refreshments are available to make your visit more comfortable.

Care partner rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, providing an area to rest and sleep for families who wish to spend the night. Sofa beds are provided in patient rooms. Please speak with the health unit coordinator when you arrive if you are interested.

The Surgical Waiting Area is located on the second floor of the hospital.

Overnight Accommodations

When family or friends want to stay nearby, here are some local lodging options.

Patient Safety

To ensure the safety of our patients and visitors, the main entrance is locked from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekends. The Emergency Entrance is open 24/7.

If you’re staying at an Aurora Medical Center for treatment, your dog can be brought in to visit with the permission of your care provider. Typically, dogs are the only pets allowed to visit, but you may ask your provider about other pets — the decision to allow other visiting pets is made on a case-by-case basis.

Ask your provider for details.

Spiritual Care

The chapel is open to patients and visitors 24 hours a day. The chapel is located on the second floor. Members of all faiths are welcome. Chaplains are on call 24 hours a day. Please ask the nurse caring for you and your family to contact them for you.

Telephones are available in patient rooms. To ensure a restful night, no incoming calls to patient rooms are received between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. For ICU patients, a designated spokesperson should contact the patient's nursing station to inquire about his or her status.

Visiting Hours & Policies

There are no set visiting hours. The patient, not the caregiver, should identify who will visit. Upon admission, the patient should determine any visitation guidelines with his or her caregivers. These guidelines should include who will visit as well as appropriate times. Patients should also identify a spokesperson to communicate the patient's condition and wishes to family and friends.

Visiting with Children

Children are welcome to visit. Family members must maintain continuous supervision of children at all times. Kids are not allowed to wander unattended or disturb other patients.

Any child with a communicable disease or obvious illness will be restricted from patient contact and areas.
